WHEN RECOMMENDING EQUIPMENT FOR A COMPACTION JOB, THE SOIL TYPES HAVE TO
BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
COHESIVE SOIL
- Use a Rammer or cleated Vibratory Trench Roller.
GRANULAR SOIL
- Use a Vibro-Plate or Vibratory Roller.
MIXED SOIL
- Use any Rammer or Trench Roller. Some faster Vibro-Plates and also Rollers can handle mixed materials.
During any compaction process, it is very important that the soil be at
or as close to optimum moisture as possible to achieve the density
required. This will help you expend the least amount of energy with the
minimum number of passes of the equipment.
Performing compaction on soil that is so dry that the compaction effort
raises a cloud of dust is a waste of time and money. Such dry soil will
not accept compaction energy, and even many passes will not compact the
soil to an acceptable density. |
